The front page of The Providence Journal business section on Dec. 12 contained the following stories: “Bank of America to cut 30,000 to 35,000 jobs;” “American Power lays off 50 to 100 employees;” “In slowdown, Textron trims additional 120;” “New claims for jobless benefits top forecasts;” “Two R.I. TV stations lay off employees.” And that was just one day.
