Legislative & Government Relations
Association staff and Board Members work very closely with our highly capable lobbying firm to develop a proactive agenda of initiatives for each legislative session. These initiatives are geared to improve administration relations, defeat negative legislation and minimize the impact of taxes and regulations. RIMTA is a Member of the National Marine Manufacture’s Association (NMMA) who represents the Recreational Marine interests on a national level.
Environmental Programs – RIMTA has held several programs in cooperation with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), RI Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), and RI Coastal Resource Management Council (CRMC) to disseminate and clarify federal and state environmental regulations.
Environmental Stewardship – RIMTA was one of the first in the Country to begin a recycling program for shrink-wrap. This Program has saved RIMTA member marinas, thousands of dollars in landfill tipping fees as well as saving the environment for the future generations. Since the inception over 500,000 pounds of shrink-wrap was recycled.
Training Funds – Over the past several years, RIMTA Members have had access to over $500,000 in Training Funds which were provided by the State of RI. The funds were used for training in every aspect of the recreational boating industry.
Promotion – Through a grant received through the Governor’s Workforce Board, RIMTA was able to hire a PR firm to market the industry. Several marketing campaigns were developed, Boats Work for RI and Make RI Your Boating Home. The campaigns have been showcased at boat shows, trade shows, etc. If you would like promotional materials for your location please contact RIMTA.
Website Services– RIMTA members receive free advertising on RIMTA.org and one free ad in monthly newsletter which goes out nationally to over 800 industry professionals. Members also enjoy a free listing on rimta.org, a website link, blog and employment postings.
RIMTA Education Scholarships – For the past several years, RIMTA has awarded scholarships ranging for $500 - $1000 to deserving individuals intending to further their education in the marine industry.
