RIMTA Skills Training Fund Application
RIMTA is extending the deadline for training applications. The new deadline is November 15, 2011.
Through generous support from the RI Governor’s Workforce Board, RIMTA members with a valid business in the state are eligible to apply for financial support for qualified and approved industry skills training. Due to the nature of these funds, certain restrictions do apply:
o Training must begin after November 7, 2011 and be completed by June 1, 2012.
o Training must be connected to a wage increase, a certification and/or a promotion.

Pressure Wash Compliance Seminar
Dear RIMTA Members, Marina Owner/Operator,
Last year The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association negotiated an extended deadline for the implementation of Pressure Wash Water Discharge elimination. This was done to permit the development of new methodologies for treatment. The agreement requires RIMTA to hold a series of workshops to inform marina owner/operators of what is required and what technologies are now available to fulfill the requirements of the regulations.

Marine Service Management Course Scheduled for March 2010
In response to feedback from the marine industry, the American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA) has scheduled its popular Marine Service Management (MSM) program in March. The next MSM course is scheduled for March 28–31, 2010, at Roscioli Yachting Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Wind turbines approved at Field’s Point
PROVIDENCE – Three wind turbines at the Narragansett Bay Commission’s (NBC) Field’s Point Wastewater Treatment Facility may just fly. The Federal Aviation Administration has granted permission for the commission to erect the 360-foot towers.

IYRS to Launch Composites Technology Program in 2010
Newport (R.I.) January 6, 2010 — The International Yacht Restoration School, with campuses in Newport and Bristol, will launch a full-time Composites Technology Program in 2010. IYRS' new program is the first of its kind in the rapidly growing composites field—due to its length, in-depth curriculum, and emphasis on teaching both hands-on practical skills and the theory behind the processes and applications of this fast-evolving technology.
