New England Tech - A Valuable Marine Trades Training Resource

The Center for Technology and Industry (CTI) at New England Institute of Technology has been dedicated for over 20 years to assisting the business community with the technical training and retraining needs of its employees and clients. The Center's mission is to provide customized, technical workforce development services and training. New England Tech’s Center for Technology and Industry (CTI) has a long standing history of providing quality customized training programs in many technical areas including the marine trades. More than 2,000 individuals annually participate in training activities conducted by CTI.
New England Institute of Technology has served and benefited a wide variety of companies with diverse training needs in the marine industry. When local boat builders required composite fabrication technician training, the Economic Development Corporation, the RI Marine Trades Association and other organizations turned to NEIT to develop and deliver a customized training program in composite repair and boat construction to meet these needs.
NEIT has also worked closely with the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA), to develop and deliver customized training programs in composite & fiberglass fabrication and repair, diesel engine repair and maintenance, electronic fuel injection, topcoat application, and marine electrical. Volvo Penta of the Americas has utilized New England Tech’s Center for Technology and Industry to provide both instruction and facilities to conduct their product training programs in such areas as diesel engine certification, electronic gas control and electronic vessel control for nearly a decade.
CTI is currently conducting a composite repair training program for ESL clients of Progreso Latino of Central Falls, RI.
On a national front, NEIT recently conducted a customized marine technology program in composite repair for Sea Ray Boats of Knoxville, TN and a marine mechanic program for Rybovich of West Palm Beach, FL.
Other successful marine trades training programs conducted by CTI include: Basic Shipbuilding Welding Theory and Techniques for Electric Boat/General Dynamics; a program in basic electrical technology for marine applications for Freedom Yachts; and a Youth Career Exploration Program in trades including marine technology conducted for the Tri Town Community Action Program.
